What the Bible Says?

Key verse: "Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever You had formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God." (Psalm 90:2)

Three Things to Consider

  1. Only things that begin need a cause.

  2. God never began; He is eternal.

  3. An uncaused Cause is the only explanation for everything else.

Short Answer

No one, because God never began. The question assumes God is a created thing, but only things that begin to exist need a cause. The universe began, so it needs one. God is eternal, without beginning or end. Psalm 90 says He is God from everlasting to everlasting. In fact, something must be eternal, or nothing would exist at all. An endless chain of causes explains nothing. The Bible's answer is that the eternal God is the uncaused Cause of everything that exists.
