Was Jesus really God?
What the Bible Says?
Key verse: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. . . . And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us." (John 1:1, 14)
Three Things to Consider
Scripture calls Jesus God.
Jesus claimed what only God can claim.
He did what only God can do.
Short Answer
Yes. John opens his Gospel by calling Jesus the Word who was with God and was God, and who became flesh. Jesus claimed authority to forgive sins, accepted worship, and said, "Before Abraham was, I AM," using God's own name. His enemies understood the claim and tried to stone Him for it. He also did what only God can do: calmed storms, raised the dead, and rose Himself. Jesus didn't stop being God when He became man. He is fully both.
