Who actually wrote the Bible?
What Does the Bible Say?
"For prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit." – 2 Peter 1:21 NKJV
Three Things to Consider
About forty human authors wrote over roughly 1,500 years.
They wrote from different places, professions, and languages.
One divine Author guided them all, which explains the Bible's unity.
Short Answer
Both God and people. About forty authors wrote the Bible over roughly 1,500 years: shepherds, kings, fishermen, a doctor, a tax collector, and a former persecutor of the church. They wrote in Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek, from palaces, prisons, and deserts. Yet the Bible tells one unified story of God redeeming people through Jesus Christ. That unity has one explanation. The Holy Spirit moved these men to write, using their personalities and vocabularies while guarding the message. The pens were human. The Author is God.
