No Half-Hearted Christianity: The Call to Jesus as Lord

The Gospel Announces a Savior and a King

We rejoice that Jesus saves. He forgives sin, breaks chains, heals the broken, and gives eternal life. But Scripture also proclaims something equally central: Jesus is Lord. The gospel is not only an offer of forgiveness; it is a declaration that a new King has come.

To call Jesus “Lord” means He has authority. It means we do not negotiate obedience. It means we do not keep parts of our lives off-limits. Lordship is not a second step for advanced believers. It is the normal Christian life.

Why We Resist Lordship

Lordship confronts what we protect. It confronts our desire to stay in control. It confronts our attachment to sin. It confronts our pride and our comfort. It confronts our fear of people. And because it confronts those things, many people want Jesus as Savior but resist Him as Lord.

But Jesus is not a harsh master. He is a good King. His commands are not chains; they are life. Sin is the real tyrant. Christ’s lordship is freedom.

What Lordship Looks Like in Real Life

Lordship shows up in ordinary places. It shows up when you forgive instead of holding a grudge. It shows up when you tell the truth even when it costs you. It shows up when you live holy even when culture celebrates compromise. It shows up when you serve without needing recognition. It shows up when you give generously because you trust God.

This is not perfectionism. It is surrender.

Don’t Call Him Lord and Refuse His Word

Jesus asked, “Why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say?” (Luke 6:46). That question still lands with weight. If Christ is preeminent, obedience becomes our response—not because we are earning salvation, but because we have received it.

Jesus, You are my Savior and my Lord. I surrender my life to You again—my habits, my relationships, my future. Lead me in Your ways. Amen.
