We Are His People and the Sheep of His Pasture

"I am the good shepherd.

The good shepherd gives

His life for the sheep."

John 10:11

In a world where people are searching for identity, security, and direction, Psalm 100:3 gives believers a strong and steady truth: we belong to God. We are His people, and we are under His care.

Psalm 100:3 says, "Know that the Lord, He is God; it is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; we are His people and the sheep of His pasture." This verse speaks to both our identity and our dependence. It reminds us that God is our Creator and our Shepherd.

First, the psalmist says, "It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves." That truth confronts human pride. We live in a culture that celebrates self-definition and self-sufficiency, but Scripture calls us back to humility. We did not create ourselves. We did not sustain ourselves. Every good thing we have is a gift from God.

James 1:17 says, "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights." Our abilities, opportunities, relationships, and even our breath are evidence of God’s grace. Humility begins when we recognize that our lives are not self-made, but God-given.

Second, Psalm 100:3 says, "We are His people and the sheep of His pasture." That is deeply personal. God is not distant from His people. He watches over them, leads them, and cares for them. Sheep need guidance, protection, and provision. The image is meant to remind us that we were never meant to navigate life apart from the Shepherd.

Jesus fulfills this promise in John 10:11, where He says, "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep." In Christ, we are not abandoned to confusion, fear, or spiritual wandering. We are loved, known, and led.

This matters in everyday life. When the future feels uncertain, we remember that the Shepherd goes before us. When we feel weak, we remember that the Shepherd provides strength. When we feel alone, we remember that the Shepherd stays near. Our security is not found in control. It is found in belonging to the Lord.

At ShoutChurch, we want people to know that identity is not found in performance, status, or struggle. True identity is found in the God who made us and the Savior who gave His life for us.

Closing Prayer

Lord, thank You for making us and calling us Your own. Help us walk in humility, trust, and confidence as people who belong to You. Thank You for being our Good Shepherd and for caring for us in every season. In Jesus’ name, amen.
