How does God speak to me?

What the Bible Says?

"However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth." – John 16:13

Three Things to Consider

  1. God speaks clearly and finally through His Word.

  2. The Spirit illuminates Scripture and applies it to your life.

  3. God also speaks through prayer, His people, and circumstances, always in line with Scripture.

Short Answer

Primarily through the Bible. Scripture is God's clear, reliable voice. If you want to hear God speak, open His Word. The Holy Spirit, who inspired it, guides us into truth by helping us understand and apply what we read. God also guides through prayer, wise counsel from mature believers, and the circumstances He arranges. But He never contradicts what He has already said in Scripture. The more you know His Word, the more clearly you'll recognize His voice in everything else.
