Can God change me?

What the Bible Says?

"I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh." - Ezekiel 36:26 NKJV

Three Things to Consider

  1. Self-improvement changes behavior; God changes hearts.

  2. The Spirit gives a new heart at salvation.

  3. The Spirit keeps transforming us over a lifetime.

Short Answer

Yes. Self-help can adjust behavior for a while, but it can't change a heart. God promised to do what we can't: remove the heart of stone and give a new heart and a new spirit. That happens when we're born again. Then the Holy Spirit keeps working, gradually transforming us into the image of Christ. Change is often slower than we'd like, but it's real. Addictions, attitudes, and old patterns can be broken. The God who raised Jesus from the dead can certainly change you.
